Registering for an MC Number is solely for commercial vehicles.

Once you have a SCAC you can get PAPS labels. Not PARS. For that you'd need a Highway Carrier Code. :)

Yes PARS shipments are for US to Canada shipments.

Regarding automobiles, as long as they are commercial goods, you will need an MC and/or a USDOT. All interstate commercial carriers will need that.

Hi thanks for the question. In this case if you're bringing low-value ecommerce goods, you will need a SCAC if you're transporting the goods across the border. You will most likely need to process all of these shipments valued under $800 USD as a Section 321 De Minimus shipment and they will need to be filed on an ACE Manifest.

@@jmchampagne3955 I don't believe the SCAC can be registered to an individual. At the very least you may need to operate under a sole proprietorship. You can find these details at NMFTA.org Good luck!

Ok great, thank you for that info. I will be setting up a company for my FBA business, so that will work. I have read up alot on this process. I am not getting into the fba business until I get my corp, and then understanding this process. For form 7523, I know it covered 800-2500 USD. I know there is more involved with this. What is your charge to help with the 321 and then a 7523. My first couple of shipments will probably get help as I can find out the process. and then eventually doing it on my own. Can you advise? With the amount of red tape the Canadian border throws at you and how important my shipments are to keeping my business running, I am more than happy to pay my customs broker well.

@@Steve-kq6gi Wouldn't you like to clear them by yourself for a fraction of the cost ? Don't you think it should be easier to do so than paying an overcharging middleman ?

Hello @abbasrizvi60 thanks for the question. If you are dispatching under your own company and simply dispatching for other companies that run under their own authority you do not need an MC or USDOT. Only the owner-operators will need that.

Hello, thank you for leaving a comment! BorderConnect primarily deals with the commercial trucking industry and not personal travel. However, it's highly recommended to have proof of citizenship through a valid passport when crossing. Although Canada could still let you in at their discretion, coming back to the U.S. does require a valid WHTI document such as valid passport, so it's recommended to have valid passports at the very least. To confirm I would contact CBSA or U.S. CBP to confirm these details before travelling. Good luck!

Just to let everyone know, we were able to get into Canada with our drivers licenses and birth certificates. Now we just need to get across back into the USA!

@@Bigshawn59 Im happy to report they let us back into the US, no problem. I guess it did her that I had my expired passport. The one guy said you can travel by land across the border with an expired passport. But my wife and son who is 18 did not have any passport, and they were allowed in just looking at their driver's license and birth certificate. All this being said, I'm going to go ahead and apply to get us all passports for the future just so that we don't have to deal with the stress of wondering. I've heard it has a lot to do with just which guard you end up getting at the border. It seems like if they are nice and in a good mood, they are more lenient about not having a passport.

Hello, great question. If you want to bring commercial goods into Canada a highway carrier code is required. A SCAC is only for bringing goods into the U.S.

Hello, so there are a few steps that need to be completed first. You will have to get your USDOT or MC Number first. After that You will need to register with a provincial transportation authority to get a CVOR (in Ontario for example), then once those steps are completed you can register for a bonded Canadian highway carrier through CBSA's website. Although the bond can be filed as a PAPS or QP In Bond in BorderConnect, it will stay as a PAPS shipment until the custom brokers QP entry is linked to the shipment, which is what you have to wait for.
